All I can think is how unfair it is that you had bathtubs in college. I am totally getting gyped. Or however you spell it.

that was so great that i even forgive you for getting that song stuck in my head. your favorite things are fantastic, not least because so many of them reflect the excellent taste and humor of your friends. lucky woman.

I think that when you next feel the need to exclaim, "Jesus, Mary and Joseph," when something shocking happens in the bathroom (like someone taking pictures of you in the bathtub)... Joseph is going to feel pretty unrepresented in that mix.

People who live in non-glass houses shouldn't throw stones. You want me to clean up MY room? Maybe you should set an example and try throwing away that empty bottle of vitamin water you've got next to Emancipatia. You know where to find me, hypocrite.

I love that there's no explanation for the other items in the picture of Emancipatia! Too funny!!

What is there to explain? It's my bedside table.

OH. MY. GOD. WHERE DID YOU GET THE GOLDEN GIRLS T-SHIRT. WHERE??? I will offer you my first born child for that shirt. You are truly one of the luckiest people alive.

PS - The religious holograms rock. There's something about religious artifacts and holograms that just works so well together. I have a clock with a hologram of the "last supper" painting as the clock face and it makes me feel so incredibly pious. And Portugese.

my roommate in college was a photography major, so i was always the guinea pig for her projects. one time she did a "disturbing photos" project. this spawned a trial and error process, wherein i let her put cooked ramen noodles and dead crickets ON MY FACE.

also, one time we painted my entire body in white shoe polish and took my picture in front of a white backdrop for her monochromatic project.

and there are many others. i was easy.

I'm so glad that two of your favorite things are from me!

We found the GG t-shirt at fredflare.com. The funny thing is the store is in Brooklyn but Sarah had to come all the way to Oklahoma for her present. It was totally worth it when she kept screaming while running back and forth between the bathroom to look at it again.

You're lucky to have such pretty feet! And that scarf rocks!

OH! I had to email that "Stay Golden" t-shirt around to all of my lady friends! You have some really rocking taste in sitcom fashion!

I love your photo essays more than is good or legal. Are they single? I could totally marry a photo essay, right?

PS. Three items make a COLLECTION so if you get one more Bea Arthur shirt, you are all set.

Sarah B., I totally need to know where they got that Golden Girls shirt!! It would be the perfect gift for my friend's bday (well, any Golden Girl's tshirt would be). She already got the boxed DVD set of the episodes, so that's a no go.

jesus and/or his mother staring at you should make you feel very protected while you do your bathroom things... pee, bathe, clip your toenails... what a wonderful feeling. Go jesus themed bathrooms!

posted by mrs. holmes on February 15, 2005 at 11:44 AM

woah, i ALSO have a jesus bathroom. i particularly enjoy the shiny things. you can see some of it in this pic right here... http://sweb.uky.edu/~aecops0/images/ohjesus.JPG .

dang, i kinda thought i was "unique."

You think it's weird drying off in front of pictures of Jesus and Mary? You should try doing it in front of Jesus and Mary themselves.
Actually, it's not too bad. They always smile shyly, look at their feet, and make small talk as if nobody in the room was naked and wet. I think they're just happy to get out occasionally...

texchic said what i wanted to say, which makes me feel a little bit like a fetishist, but eh. you do have lovely feet.

and that abe lincoln cologne is just about the best. thing. ever. bottled. ever.

i guess i'm doing something right because i gave a friend a homemade bea arthur tshirt for xmas.

i used to work at the gap and i remember selling that weird-looking scarf. it's even weirder that i remember it...

Well, Sarah B., your beside table is certainly interesting then! A copy of "Don Quixote", a few candles, some bottled water, obligatory Vaseline lip balm, what appears to be a hair rubber-band thingie, and a photograph of the cast of "The Golden Girls" circa 1987!! I am totally laughing!!

posted by Marie on February 15, 2005 at 06:27 PM

I was just wondering this morning if Desmond was still alive. Great pictures.

posted by Jenny on February 15, 2005 at 07:15 PM

YOU HAVE THE JEMARY HOLOGRAM TOO??!!!

I bought mine at an "Everything Less Than $1" store, except it was $4. It was actually the top part of a clock and encased in a shiny gold tin, well, casing. The clock was at the bottom.

I loved that creepy Jemary clock but we moved and it fell off the wall and that was the end of that.

Glad someone else can share the joy!

I was thinking the bedside table pic was a pretty sweet still life--the Golden Girls pic, Don Quixote, vitamin water, lip balm, and (of course) Emancipatia. Inspires me to do a whole series on friends' bedside tables and what that says about them.

Thank you for the comments, Sarah Brown! You totally made my night, which may or may not mean I have no life.

Anyway, you rock.

posted by Em on February 15, 2005 at 09:31 PM

What's there to explain?

Sarah Brown, you have a cast picture of the Golden Girls IN A FUCKING FRAME.

Nothing to explain? Don't play coy with me.

Your place is so clean. Did you clean it because you were taking pics or took the pics cuz it happened to be clean? I have been known to have a party just so I would buckle down and get the homestead livable...but I have also been known to throw a party cuz the place looked nice...hmm, if a tree falls in the forest...

I've gotta tell you...you've got some awesome stuff there. I love the bathroom...although I find the shrine to the Golden Girls somewhat disturbing. But the Abe For Men really makes up for it.

May I point you to the artwork of Mr. Brandon Bird, if you haven't already seen it:

OK, this is SO weird - you know that scarf from the gap? well a few months ago at a thrift store i bought a LAUNDRY BAG that TOTALLY EXACTLY MATCHES it! except it has the letter B on it, which i thought was perfect since my name starts with b. my favorite part is the eighties chick with the HUGE GAUDY faux-gem earing!!!anyway it's probably supposed to be a GIANT PURSE or something, but i use it for laundry and it's awesome.
