Come at me!

"You lost your chance. It’s been on the bedside table for two months now."

I'm sure there should be a way this can be worked into the marriage vows.

Moral: If a book written by a Frenchman has been sitting on your bedside table for two months and you fail to read it during that time, don't be surprised when your boyfriend offers it to someone else to read during their vacation.

I think that moral can be applied in so many ways. It's truly a story as old as time.

Megan should totally read The Road. http://www.amazon.com/Road-Movie-Tie-2008/dp/0307472124/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1246463617&sr=1-1

Such an uplifting tale of nuclear holcaust. I read it last summer. So lovely. :-)

I actually like stuff about nuclear holocausts -- dig on a little Alas, Babylon! or On The Beach. Good shit, put you in a weeeeird mood where all you want to do is listen to Morrissey and figure out what you, a survivor of the aforementioned NH, would do once the shit has gone down. Oh wait, that's every day, if you're me. Heh.

Anyhoo ... I did a dramatic reading of a page of the chick-lit classic "Baby-proof" for my gang in the office today. It was pretty awesome. We all came away from it a little bit sorry we have vaginas, if THAT'S what the rest of our kind is into.

Do NOT read Edgar Sawtelle whatever you do. I have tried to read that thing several times because my sister-in-law, who is an English teacher, insists it is on the same par with Grapes of Wrath or an Updike novel. It is so painfully difficult for me to read that getting a root canal without anesthesia would be more enjoyable. But I hate to give up. I feel like I have to finish this book. Especially since I tried to give it back once and she shoved it right back at me and said, "You need to finish this book. You need to." Once a teacher, always a teacher....

I like this Nick guy! My favorite book of all time (A Void) is also written by Georges Perec. It's written without any use of the letter E -- pretty crazy.

I have two copies of that, Sarah! Do you want it in hardcover or paperback?

not for nothin', but a good book is one that takes you out of yourself, no? that's what you asked for!
